Abschlusspräsentation Masterforschungsprojekte

Wie in jedem Jahr stellen die Studierenden des Masters Ethnologie 120 ihre im vergangenen Jahr durchgeführten Forschungen vor. Wir möchten Sie gern zu folgenden Vorträgen mit anschließenden Diskussionen einladen:
- Helena Adams – C.F. Rolle Mühle - das Überleben der letzten im Erzgebirge produzierenden Mühle
- Philipp Baum – Durch den „Sommer der Wahrheit“ mit der Bewegung Halle
- Philipp Bernert – Ferman - Betrachtung familiärer Überlieferungen von Verfolgung
- Pauline Kratzing – Grenzgänge - Erinnerungsarbeit und Naturschutz am Grünen Band in Thüringen
- Julien Ratinaud – “A Home Away From Home": die Unterstützung internationaler Seeleute durch christliche Missionen im Hamburger Hafen
- Edda Rohrbach – “Ich hab` nicht gestunken, ich hab nicht gestohlen und ich war auch in der Arbeit verwendbar!" – der Umgang mit dem sogenannten `Asozialenparagraphen` in der Aufarbeitung von DDR-Unrecht
- Antonia Taubert – Fragile Räume - zur Verletzlichkeit lokaler Nichtregierungsorganisationen in Bosnien und Herzegowina

Summerschool “Post-Carbon Futures” – Outcomes published online
In September of this year, the international summer school "Post-Carbon Futures. Cities, Industries and Energies in Central Europe", co-organised by the Institute for Social and Cultural Anthropology and funded by the German Academic Exchange Service, took place in Halle. For one week, twenty national and international MA and PhD students and lecturers from Estonia, Lithuania, Scotland, England, Wales and Germany dealt with the energy transition, industrial landscapes and post-fossil futures. Outcomes of the summer school – short essays, photos and interviews with the lectures – are now documented on the summer school’s homepage www.post-carbon-futures.de .
International Virtual Conference "Collaborations and Contestations in Publicly Engaged Anthropologies“ (12-14 January 2022)
On January 12-14, Olaf Zenker and Asta Vonderau from the Institute for Social and Cultural Anthropology and Jacqueline Knörr and Carolin Görzig from the Max Planck Institute for Social Anthropology are organizing an international conference entitled "Collaborations and Contestations in Publicly Engaged Anthropologies". This workshop deals with a central topic within the field of a scientifically ambitious and socio-politically committed Public Anthropology: namely with the epistemological, ethical, disciplinary and practical challenges resulting from the collaborative entanglements inherent to anthropological research. Engaging with highly diverse settings of anthropological praxis, it offers critical reflections of both the benefits of collaboration and the productive potentials of contestation, distance and detachment as ethical and methodological commitments in their own right. The event will be opened with the keynote “A Feminist Activist Research in the Land of Mass Graves”, in which Prof. Rosalva Aída Hernández Castillo from the Center for Research and Advanced Studies in Social Anthropology (CIESAS) in Mexico City reflects on her activist research on family collectives searching for their disappeared relatives in Mexico.

Boris Wille erhält Dissertationspreis der Deutschen Gesellschaft für Sozial- und Kulturanthropologie
Boris Wille wurde mit seiner Arbeit „Democracy as political culture. Popular politics during the 2012 crisis in the Maledives” am 29. September 2021 als einer von zwei Zweitplatzierten mit dem Dissertationspreis der Deutschen Gesellschaft für Sozial- und Kulturanthropologie (DGSKA) ausgezeichnet. Boris Wille promovierte an der Martin-Luther-Universität Halle-Wittenberg am Seminar für Ethnologie. Die unabhängige Kommission, die über die Preisvergabe entschied, beschied der ausgezeichneten Arbeit von Boris Wille: „Sie verknüpft in innovativer Weise verschiedene theoretische Zugänge mit dem Ziel, unterschiedliche Facetten des empirischen Materials herauszuarbeiten und einen wichtigen Beitrag zur ‚anthropology of democracy‘ zu leisten… Die Arbeit zeichnet sich durch eine kreative Herangehensweise, die Prägung neuer Begriffe und interessante Beispiele aus.“
Der Dissertationspreis der DGSKA wurde im Jahr 2017 durch die Mitgliederversammlung eingerichtet und wird seitdem alle zwei Jahre verliehen. Nominiert werden können herausragende ethnologische Promotionsarbeiten aus dem gesamten deutschsprachigen Raum, die auf ethnographischer Forschung basieren oder Themen der Fachgeschichte behandeln. Die DGSKA wurde 1929 als „Gesellschaft für Völkerkunde gegründet“ und ist eine Fachvereinigung von Ethnologinnen und Ethnologen und an der Ethnologie interessierten Personen und Institutionen. Sie hat derzeit 840 Mitglieder.
Keebet von Benda-Beckmann 1946–2022
Das Seminar für Ethnologie der MLU trauert um seine Honorarprofessorin: Prof. Dr. Keebet von Benda-Beckmann, die im Oktober 2022 verstarb, war über viele Jahre prägend auf dem Gebiet der Rechtsethnologie in Halle. Das Seminar verliert mit ihr eine international renommierte ebenso wie persönlich äußerst geschätzte Kollegin.

A warm welcome to our new Professor Anita von Poser!
On 1st October 2022 Prof. Dr. Anita von Poser was appointed as Full Professor at the Institute for Social and Cultural Anthropology at Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg, where she holds the chair for ‘Mobility Studies’ focusing on human-human and human-environmental relations. After her master’s and doctoral studies at Heidelberg University, where she received her DPhil in Social and Cultural Anthropology in 2009, she became MaxNetAging Postdoctoral Fellow at the Max Planck Institutes for Demographic Research in Rostock and for Social Anthropology in Halle/Saale. At Freie Universität Berlin, starting in 2011, she was first Postdoctoral Research Associate at the Institute of Social and Cultural Anthropology, before becoming Principal Investigator in the Collaborative Research Center Affective Societies in 2015 and Professor of Psychological Anthropology with a focus on ‘Migration, Psyche, Aging’ in 2021. She combines her regional foci on Oceanic and diasporic-Vietnamese lifeworlds with her theoretical interests, especially in the fields of the Anthropology of Social Relationships as well as Psychological and Phenomenological Anthropology. In the coming years, her research and teaching will focus on phenomena of social, spatial, and material im-/mobility in view of fragmented contexts of care, altering life-courses, and ecological transformations. We are excited about her appointment and look forward to our collaboration!

Rekontextualisierung der Anton Wilhelm Amo Gedenktafel und der Bronzeplastik "Freies Afrika“
Anlässlich der offiziellen Enthüllung der neuen Anton-Wilhelm-Amo-Informationstafel am Universitätsring befassen sich einige Kurzvideos - u.a. anderem von Prof. Dr. Olaf Zenker und unserem Doktoranden Raja-Léon Hamann (Amo-Bündnis Halle) - auf der Amo-Website der Martin-Luther-Universität Halle-Wittenberg mit Anton Wilhelm Amo, der Bronzeplastik "Freies Afrika" von Gerhard Geyer und der Bedeutung beider im Lichte der Dekolonialisierungsdebatte in Deutschland.
Ringvorlesung "Post-fossile Zukünfte: Raumtransformation nach der Kohle"
Ringvorlesung am 11.11.21, 16 Uhr, in der MLU Aula des Löwengebäudes (MLU)
Der sogenannte Kohleausstieg stellt die drei deutschen Braunkohlereviere als Zukunftsregionen in den Mittelpunkt. Wie kann ein politisch eingeleiteter Strukturwandel nachhaltig und sozial gerecht gestaltet werden? Unter dem Titel „Raumtransformation nach der Kohle“ wird unser Hauptredner, Herr Prof. Rainer Danielzyk, zu Transformationen der Kohleregionen aus der Perspektive der Raumentwicklung sprechen. Es gilt hier neue Ansätze zu entwickeln, die diese Aufgabe sowohl in ihrer historischen als auch lokalen Einmaligkeit gerecht werden.
Der Vortrag wird durch Diskussionsbeiträge aus der Martin-Luther-Universität ergänzt. Die Veranstaltung ist öffentlich zugänglich (unter Einhaltung der 3G-Regel).

The summer school "Post-Carbon Futures. Cities, Industries and Energies in Central Europe", co-organized by the Institute for Social and Cultural Anthropology, begins on September 19 in Halle. For one week, twenty national and international MA and PhD students and lecturers from Estonia, Lithuania, Scotland, England, Wales and Germany deal with the topics of the energy transition, industrial landscapes and post-fossil futures. In addition to academic workshops and lectures, participants will be in contact with experts in Halle, Leuna and Profen. The summer school is funded by the German Academic Exchange Service.

Statement and petition on the situation in Afghanistan
In light of the recent events in Afghanistan, the Institute for Social and Cultural Anthropology would like to draw attention to the following petition: "We watch the dramatic events unfolding in Afghanistan with dismay. In our projects and networks, we work together with numerous cultural workers and human rights activists located in Afghanistan. Read our statement and sign our petition!"

Normalität in Zeiten von Corona: Studierende am SfE im Gespräch
In einem Interview mit dem Deutschlandfunk hat Henriette Werling, Ethnologie-Studentin der MLU Halle, über ihr studentisches Feldforschungsprojekt „Normalität in Zeiten von Corona“ (mit Lea Schöche, ebenfalls Ethnologie-Studentin am SfE) und über das Studieren während der Covid-19-Pandemie gesprochen. Die Sendung Lebenszeit: Immer mehr Normalität – Die Rückkehr ins soziale Leben lief am 25.06.2021 (ab Minute 12).
