Statement and petition on the situation in Afghanistan

In light of the recent events in Afghanistan, the Institute for Social and Cultural Anthropology would like to draw attention to the following petition: "We watch the dramatic events unfolding in Afghanistan with dismay. In our projects and networks, we work together with numerous cultural workers and human rights activists located in Afghanistan. Read our statement and sign our petition!"

Normalität in Zeiten von Corona: Studierende am SfE im Gespräch

In einem Interview mit dem Deutschlandfunk hat Henriette Werling, Ethnologie-Studentin der MLU Halle, über ihr studentisches Feldforschungsprojekt „Normalität in Zeiten von Corona“ (mit Lea Schöche, ebenfalls Ethnologie-Studentin am SfE) und über das Studieren während der Covid-19-Pandemie gesprochen. Die Sendung Lebenszeit: Immer mehr Normalität – Die Rückkehr ins soziale Leben    lief am 25.06.2021 (ab Minute 12).

Call for Participation: Summerschool "Post-Carbon Futures"

The international summer school "Post-Carbon-Futures: Cities, Industries and Energies in Central Europe" will take place in Halle in September 2021. This summer school will focus on the futures of carbon industries and  industrial cities as well as on the futures of energy production and  consumption in the emerging post-carbon era. PhD students and advanced MA students are invited to explore  current academic debates and relate these approaches  to ongoing economic and social transformations in the Central German Mining District.

The German Academic Exchange Service will fund the Summer School "Post-Carbon Futures: Cities, Industries and Energies in Central Europe", which will take place in Halle in September 2021. This Summer Scholl is organised by the Seminar für Ethnologie, Lehstuhl Prof. Asta Vonderau, in cooperation with the Centre for Interdisciplinary Regional Studies Halle, the Department of Anthropology Durham, and the Department of Social Sciences Vilnius. Hinsehen. Zuhören. Einmischen? Filmische Blicke auf den Rechtspopulismus

Die Netzwerkstelle Ethnologie und Praxis beteiligt sich an einer Kooperation mit der Forschungsgruppe "Alpine Geschichten des globalen Wandels   " des Max-Planck-Instituts für ethnologische Forschung an den diesjährigen halleschen Bildungswochen gegen Rassismus   :

Seit rechtsextreme Parteien in Europa Einzug in Parlamente gehalten haben, befassen sich Filmemacher*innen und visuelle Anthropolog*innen wieder verstärkt mit dem Thema. Dabei stellen sich u. a. folgende Fragen:

Welche filmischen Zugänge eignen sich, um das Phänomen adäquat zu beschreiben? Welche Haltungen nehmen Filmemacher*innen dabei ein? Inwiefern gelingt es diesen Filmen, sich ins politische Geschehen einzumischen? Das wollen wir gemeinsam mit Filmemacher*innen und Wissenschaftler*innen diskutieren.

Die Teilnehmenden bekommen im Vorfeld die Möglichkeit, die Filme 24 Stunden lang kostenlos anzusehen: „Inland“ (AT 2020 Regie: Ulli Gladek) und „La Cravate“ (F 2019 Regie: Matthias Théry, Etienne Chaillou).

Praktikumsmöglichkeit: Projekt "Frauen in Transformations-Gesellschaften"

Die Netzwerkstelle Ethnologie und Praxis stellt folgende Praktikumsmöglichkeit vor:

Habt Ihr Lust Euch mit einem selbstgewählten Thema in eine laufende internationale Projektarbeit einzubringen und praktische Erfahrungen im Bereich interdisziplinärer Zusammenarbeit zu sammeln? Und darüber hinaus auch Kontakte zu knüpfen, zu einer bundesweit agierenden Stiftung mit Fokus auf politische Bildung und einem kritischem Blick auf gegenwärtige gesellschaftlicher Phänomene und Dynamiken? Dann ist das hier vielleicht genau das Richtige für Euch!

In Kooperation mit der Rosa Luxemburg Stiftung Sachsen-Anhalt    und der Netzwerkstelle Ethnologie und Praxis habt ihr die Möglichkeit, im Sommersemester 2021 ein Praktikum zu absolvieren.

Die Rosa Luxemburg Stiftung Sachsen-Anhalt befasst sich 2021 unter anderem in verschiedenen Veranstaltungsformaten mit der Städte- und Universitätspartnerschaft zwischen Ufa (Hauptstadt der Republik Baschkortostan, RF) und Halle. Diese bestehen formell seit DDR-Zeiten, wurden jedoch in den vergangenen 30 Jahren wenig gepflegt.

Unter dem Thema „Frauen in Transformations-Gesellschaften 1990 - 2020 Halle - Ufa - Woronesh“ könnt Ihr Euch in dieses laufende Projekt der Stiftung mit einem selbstgewählten Unterthema einbringen und ganz nebenbei auch euer Praktikum für das Fach Ethnologie absolvieren.

CityIndustries Workshop Series

Between March and September the CityIndustries research network, in cooperation with the Institute for Social and Cultural Anthropology and the Centre for Interdisciplinary Regional Studies, organises the digital workshop series "Renewal, Endurance and Care: Spaces and Rhythms of Urban Industrial Entanglements". The first session of this format will be on the 18th and 19th of March and will entail a keynote lecture by Andrea Muehlebach (Toronto): "Finance`s Infrastructures - Water, Time, Debt".
