Forschungspartner*innen
Yusuf K. Serunkuma ist wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter am Institut für Sozial- und Kulturanthropologie der Martin-Luther-Universität Halle-Wittenberg, wo er auch promovierte. Er besitzt zudem einen Master of Philosophy (MPhil) in Sozialwissenschaften (Schwerpunkt Kulturwissenschaften) und einen Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Literaturwissenschaft, beide von der Makerere-Universität in Kampala, Uganda. Serunkumas Forschungsinteressen reichen von sezessionistischem Nationalismus, Identitätspolitik, kritischer Dekolonisierung und politischer Ökonomie bis hin zu Populärkultur und Gouvernementalität. Sein jüngstes, von VW gefördertes Projekt, das er gemeinsam mit Dr. Stefanie Lammert (Humboldt) und Dr. Serawit Debele (Bayreuth) durchführte, befasste sich mit Afrikastudien in Deutschland aus der Perspektive der kritischen Rassentheorie. Im Fokus stand die Frage des Rassenbewusstseins, insbesondere im Hinblick auf Schwarze Deutsche, Indigene und andere People of Color (BIPoC) und die Art und Weise, wie Afrikastudien in Deutschland kanonisiert und kuratiert werden. Dr. Serunkuma ist auch Dramatiker, und seine beiden Stücke („Die Schlangenzüchter“ und „Die Fleischfeste“) gehören in Uganda und Ruanda zur Pflichtlektüre an Gymnasien. Yusuf ist Autor eines neuen Buches über Dekolonisierung/Neukolonialismus: „Surrounded: Democracy, Free Markets and Other Entrapments of New Colonialism“, erschienen in Kampala bei Editor House Facility (ehf).
