Biography

Edda Willamowski is a social and cultural anthropologist with a thematic focus on psychological and phenomenological anthropology. Since 2024 she has been working in research and teaching at the Institute for Social and Cultural Anthropology at the chair of Prof. Dr. Anita von Poser for mobility studies with a focus on human-human and human-environment relationships at Martin-Luther-Universität Halle-Wittenberg. Previously, she worked as a research assistant at the Collaborative Research Center Affective Societies - Dynamics of Coexistence in Mobile Worlds at Freie Universität Berlin. Within an interdisciplinary team research, she explored the long-term effects of war and immobility/mobility in old age and in an life in migration. In her doctorate she examined the connection between mental health, (forced) migration and spatial perception in Vietnamese life-worlds in Berlin. She then focused on how migration and arrival circumstances influence social participation in the area of psychosocial care. In her current applied ethnographic research project, she examines recent migration phenomena between Vietnam and Germany with a focus on the live-worlds of young migrants, the work areas of specialists in social work, health and education sectors, and the Berlin administration. Since 2019 Edda has been co-speaker of the Psychological Anthropology working group of the German Anthropological Association.
